Teaching
I teach the courses that shaped me — process control, unit operations, and chemical reaction engineering at Alabama; mathematics, thermodynamics, and chemical technology at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. I run office hours, support lectures and lab work, and grade the work that tells me whether the teaching landed.
Approach
Teaching philosophy
When I was in primary school, a teacher told me that science is not for women. I did not accept it then and I do not accept it now — but I learned early that what a teacher says to a student can either close a door or hold it open. That is the standard I hold myself to every time I walk into a classroom or an office hour.
I did not study science only to earn a degree. I studied it to use as a tool for change, and that is how I teach it: process control, unit operations, and chemical reaction engineering are not equations to memorise but ways of asking what a system is really doing and what it could do instead.
I also teach because of who might be watching. If I did not become the example I wanted other girls to see, my own dream would be smaller than it should be. Mentoring young people — especially women — is not separate from the research. It is part of why the research matters.

Requesting a letter
I'm glad to write letters for students I've taught or mentored closely. So that I can write something specific and strong, please reach out at least four weeks before your earliest deadline and include: your CV or résumé, an unofficial transcript, the programs or positions you're applying to with their deadlines, and a short note on what you'd like the letter to emphasize.
If we worked together in a course or the lab and you remember a project or moment worth highlighting, mention it — it helps me tell your story honestly and well.
