About

Shivangi N. Borate defended her Ph.D. in the Harris Laboratory in June 2026, working on heterogeneous catalysis, zeolites and renewable energy — including carbon–carbon coupling over rare-earth-containing zeolites and ethanol conversion, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She received the ACS CATL–ChemCatBio Graduate Student Travel Award, a Top Oral Presentation award at the Southeastern Catalysis Society meeting, and the department’s Outstanding Research by a Doctoral Student award.

We share first authorship on the study of how co-feeding acetone increases C5+ olefin formation during ethanol upgrading. Sharing a first-author line with someone means trusting them with your half of the work, and she made that easy. I am grateful for her rigour and her generosity as a colleague.

Working on something that overlaps?

If your research touches the same questions, I would like to hear about it — whether that is a joint paper, a shared sample set, or a conversation about where the work is going.
