Prof. Shahriar Amini is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama, where he leads the Decarbonization Group working on direct air capture and clean hydrogen systems — from laboratory and pilot-scale demonstration through techno-economic and life-cycle assessment. He directs the Alabama Renewable Energy Program, and before Alabama was Research Director of the flow technology department at SINTEF in Norway.
Our comparative assessment of oxygen carrier materials for gas switching reforming was published with his group in Energy Conversion & Management. That project taught me to hold an experimental result against its own economics and life-cycle impact, which has changed how I judge my own work. I am grateful for it.
