About

Dr. Pamela Welz — who publishes as P. J. Welz — is a Senior Researcher at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, holding a Ph.D. in Biotechnology and an M.Sc. in Environmental Science and Management. Her research centres on the treatment, reuse, resource recovery and valorisation of agri-industrial residues and effluent, including the semi-passive remediation of winery effluent at small local wineries and anaerobic digestion of winery and tannery waste.

She is a co-author on our study of the anaerobic digestion of primary winery wastewater sludge and the reuse of the digestate as a fertilizer, published in Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery. That project is where I saw a waste stream become biogas, energy and soil nutrients at once, and I am grateful to have worked on it with her.

Working on something that overlaps?

If your research touches the same questions, I would like to hear about it — whether that is a joint paper, a shared sample set, or a conversation about where the work is going.
